A Gentlemen’s Spring Shorts Bulletin

Fashionably brought to you by Simon Malls

Spring. It’s a simultaneously terrifying and wonderful season. Why? Because the days get warmer and men insist on bringing those horrible cargo shorts back out of the closet.

I’ve tried to rationalize it in my head for years. Is it the pocket space? Aren’t men stereotypically supposed to be the less high maintenance of the sexes, therefore needing to carry less around? Is it the aversion to something more fitted? I can understand this idea, but that doesn’t mean you need to go around slapping a million pockets onto the thing.

This is why each spring I make it my mission to encourage men to ditch their cargo shorts once and for all. Cut the cord. Be done. Move on. Bye, Felicia.

Done? Great. Now that you have all that extra room in your dresser, consider filling the space with these more stylish options.

CPO Crosby Chino Short (available at Urban Outfitters) – Just like your old and ratty cargo shorts, gentlemen. Except, you know, with a clean, sharp fit and just your standard pant pockets.

CPO 9′ Crosby Chambray Stripe Short (available at Urban Outfitters) – Perfectly paired with a colorful shoe, shirt, or sweater, this short is perfect for a casual brunch or a day at the beach.

Cotton Seersucker Kennedy Short (available at American Apparel) – Synonymous with spring and summer, seersucker shorts are a must-have for the warmer months. Wear them to a casual day at the office or any outdoor daytime event with a polo or button-up.

9″ Stanton Short in Garment-Dyed Cotton (available at J.Crew) – J.Crew has a wide variety of shorts for any guy. Personally, I’m a fan of the Stanton Short in this bright red currant color, but they have a huge selection of styles, fabrics, colors, fits, and lengths for any gentleman. Depending on your leg length and preference, they carry shorts with 5, 7, 9, and 10.5 inch inseams.
