Want to experience a night of wonder and excitement? Well, step right up, Atlanta—the Big Apple Circus is coming to town!
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Big Apple Circus plans to surprise and delight spectators with various eye-widening acts. One performer, Jan Damm, will show off his impressive rola bola moves—a feat involving a board placed on top of cylinders, described by a NYT writer to look like “a panda trying to snowboard.”
Another act to raise your blood pressure is the incredible Elayne Kraymer, a contortionist whose movements will make you gasp in disbelief. But perhaps the most exciting act coming to Atlanta this year is the 10-time World Record Holder, Nik Wallenda, who is also known as “the King of the High Wire” and the “Greatest Daredevil of Our Generation.”
To call these acts entertaining would be a gross understatement for Nik and the other Big Apple Circus performers—the group delivers a fantastic show full of inspiring moments. The true draw of Big Apple Circus, in fact, is not its culmination of daring brushes with death, but instead its charming intimacy. All these magnificent performers gather beneath the nostalgic silhouette of one big circus tent, and the audience, for a moment, is able to feel connected to the show and the performers themselves.
Of course, a charming circus show would be nothing without a truly impossible-seeming act. For their 40th anniversary, Big Apple Circus will wow spectators with its famous seven-person pyramid on the high wire with none other than Nik Wallenda and the Fabulous Wallendas. Joining Nik and the Fabulous Wallendas will be the Flying Tunizianis, who will attempt a quadruple somersault on the trapeze.
These are just some of the acts appearing at this season’s Big Apple Circus, but others include a master juggler, skilled ringmaster, and crazy feats on roller skates. Another face you’ll see (yes, you’ll see faces—even the back row is just 50 feet from the stage) is circus trainer and presenter Jenny Vidbel, who will be joined by furry friends: 16 horses and ponies and six rescue dogs.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets to Big Apple Circus in Atlanta, which will be in the area until February 25 in Lot A at the Verizon Amphitheater (1775 Founders Parkway, Alpharetta, GA). Tickets range from $32 to $73, so every families in every budget can enjoy the wonder of a true circus tent.
