Let the Show Begin!

Hey Lovelies!

It’s Day #4 of my #NYCadventure, and it’s been a total blast! Here’s a quick recap of my previous days highlights. I toured the famed Broadway in Times Square. It was sooo colorful, vibrant, and exciting! Let me tell you… There’s no place like Times Square! I had a fabulous time… did a little shopping… did a little lot more shopping, and met some amazing women at a Sip’n Shop event surrounding Full Figured Fashion Week. It’s Showtime, at the Apollo!

Without a doubt New York is definitely the ‘City of Landmarks.’ I mean the Big Apple is full of historic places like Times Square and Central Park, and landmarks such as the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. But there’s a landmark in NYC that I’ve always wanted to visit and that’s the Apollo Theater in Harlem. As a kid I’d dream of being on stage and singing in front of an audience, and the Apollo was it! Iconic stars like the Ella Fitzgerald, Patti LaBelle, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, James Brown, Lionel Richie, and the Queen of Soul Miss Aretha Franklin have all graced the Apollo stage. I dreamed that I’d be on stage on Amateur Night signing my heart out…and the crowd would roar with applause! Hey, if you could survive the Apollo you can make it anywhere…because if the Apollo crowd didn’t love you, you’d get booed all the way home. Well, unfortunately I didn’t get my shot at Apollo stardom, but I did stop by to snap a few pics and to see all the stars names on the walk of fame!

Fab Fashion + The Fashion Show

After my Apollo moment it was time to head over to a fabulous fashion luncheon for a fashion forward plus size clothing brand Modamix. The brainchild of design house Brandon Thomas Co., LTD, Modamix offers a collection of clothing that is both stylish and comfortable for the contemporary plus woman. Brandon Thomas is a successful design house with an impressive track record of private label business with major retailers around the globe. Guests of the event mixed and mingled over drink and nibbles, received fabulous swag bags filled with lots of goodies, and got an up close and personal peek at the brands favorite looks. I had a wonderful time and look forward to more fab fashion from Modamix!

Following Modamix it was time for the Indie Fashion Showcase. This is by far one of the highlights of Full Figured Fashion Week. Both up & coming and emerging designers get a chance to show off their collections and strut their stuff on the runway in a fabulous display of sass and style. For the ‘Indie’ event I rocked another custom dress designed by my girls and indie designers themselves, Tamikia and Nikia Bell of Unique Sisters Designs. My gorgeous garment featured a colorful floral print atop a lovely rose-laced detail on the bottom. The dress was uh-mazing!!! Kisses girls!!! :-X

The enthusiast crowd saw some amazing looks from designers such as ASK Fashion by Amanda Koker, Dea London, Elocin Plus, Kiyoko Linden by Shemeka Buckner, Poppy & Bloom, Eyani Couture by Sakinah B., Kianna Tracy Collection, Rue 114 by Serwah Asante, Serita Bell by Cassandra Smith, Tia Lyn, and TwentyFour20 by Allison McGevna. The showcase featured looks for plus size women ranging from lingerie, ready to wear, and haute couture fashion. The Indie Fashion Showcase was absolutely incredible! Kudos to the fabulous Gwen DeVoe, the founder of Full Figured Fashion Week, for another amazing experience. Bravo to all of the featured designers and designs that graced the runway.

The night was bitter sweet for me as this would be my finale for now in the Big Apple. And although my #NYCadventure was quickly coming to a close I couldn’t help but reminisce about the wonderful and fun-filled time I had in New York City these past few days. Hey, this gal is smitten by the City, and I can’t wait to return! #iLoveNYC
