Geometry Class

Hey Fashionistas,

This season has seen its share of fabulous fashion trends. And while some of the summer’s hottest styles were re-do’s from seasons past like peplum and color-blocking, others seemed to be a breath of fresh air like all-over floral prints, lovely lace, bold stripes, and mix-matched prints. Summer fashion has definitely been a lesson in Fashion Creativity 101. I’ve learned a lot during Summer Style School and my wardrobe is slowly but surely making its way to the Haute Honor Roll for Fall. One of my favorite fashion subjects for the coming season is Geometric Patterns. Unlike solids, geo-patterns tend to break up body lines and can also mask or cover up your trouble spots effortlessly. And although this trend is more for the fashionably fearless I believe anyone can incorporate geometric pieces into their existing style. So if you’re afraid to step outside of your style “box” to “tri-angle” this bold look, fear not. Geometric-inspired designs come in a variety of styles to suite any fashionistas’ fancy and are definitely on trend for the coming season. So whether you prefer a more tribal-flair to your style or even a bit of mod-chic pizzazz, geo-inspired pieces for Fall are just the thing to keep you at the head of the class. Shop, Eat and Drink at Original Penguin for Bert’s Big Adventure!

Original Penguin and Bert’s Big Adventure hosts charity event at Lenox Square

Original Penguin invites Atlantans to shop till you drop for a great cause! The lifestyle clothing retailer for men and women has teamed up with Bert’s Big Adventure, a non-profit organization that provides 5 days of fun at Walt Disney World for children with chronic and/or terminal illness and their families, to host a night of shopping, food, and fun in their Atlanta store.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 18th from 6-9pm at the Original Penguin store in Lenox Square. Attendees will enjoy special discounts throughout the event, photobooth pictures to capture all of the fun, cocktails from Vixen Vodka, light bites from Tin Lizzy’s Cantina and a chance to putt for charity. Insta-Glam reSnap: #RX4style in NOLA… Just what the Dr. ordered!

Dr. Miracles #RX4style event in New Orleans

In my quest to be everywhere that’s haute and happening (and I do mean EVERYWHERE), I recently returned from a cross-country trek to Nawlins (that’s New Orleans for my southern lingo challenged divas) for the #RX4style soiree presented by Dr. Miracles, Curl Care by Dr. Miracles and Naturally Happy Hair. Held at the fabulous Bellocq Lounge inside the ultra chic Hotel Modern in downtown New Orleans, this product showcase and social soiree surrounded the Essence Music Festival and featured a host of surprises throughout the day.

As many of you may already know I’m an 80’s baby, and not because I was born then (although I am more than willing to shave a couple years off my age to have been). 😉 You remember the 80’s right? Let’s see; there was the fun dance party music and those coming-of-age movies celebrating teen-angst; and who can forget all that fabulously colorful and chic fashion. Bright bold and brash are words that best describe this era of style that was the literal sonic boom in pop culture. The 80’s was an era that defined fashion for me, and like most impressionable teens during this era, rockin the latest fashion trends was a rite of passage. 80’s fashion was all about fun and fearlessness and there was one designer that captured this spirit and wrapped it in a tutu, and her name is Betsey Johnson. Without question THE most fun in fashion, Betsey Johnson has been shaking up the fashion world for over half a century. Best known for her celebration of the exuberant, the embellished and the over-the-top, Betsey J has been my style icon ever since my fashion’s first kiss (blush moment).

I was thrust into the fabulously fun world of Betsey Johnson in the 80’s, and this inspirational and iconic brand has been a staple in my fashion arsenal ever since… Just peep a few of my fave BJ gems (left).

WARNING: The following contains an excessive amount of 80’s references such as totally, awesome, and stoked just to name a few…And that’s just in the first paragraph! Enjoy!

Ok…as you probably guessed, I’m “like” “soooo” infatuated with Betsey J! Hmmm, I wonder what Betsey J has up her tulle-embellished sleeve this season. 😀 Well, whatever surprises she has for the WWDMagic showcase you can be certain that it will be exciting, fun, and cartwheel-worthy in true Betsey fashion. After all, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!” right?!

Get even MORE Despicable as Despicable Me 2 hits theaters on July 3rd

Gru and his Minions are back! This summer get ready for more Minion madness when Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, and the beloved Minions return, along with a host outrageously funny new characters. DESPICABLE ME 2 hits theaters on July 3rd.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s worldwide blockbuster, Despicable Me, delighted audiences around the globe in 2010, grossing more than $540 million and becoming the 10th-biggest animated motion picture in U.S. history. In Summer 2013, get ready for more Minion madness in Despicable Me 2. Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed film-making team create an all-new comedy animated adventure featuring the return of Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions…and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.

Last week my family and I had a blast at the pre- screening in Atlanta. Despicable Fans from all over brought their mini-Minions out for sneak peek of the movie. We had an absolute “despicably fun time” and we even captured some of the fun courtesy of OMG Booth!

I must say that the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack is amazing! Check out this live performance by Pharrell Williams of the song “Happy” from the movie’s soundtrack on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Lenox Square Hosts 54th Annual Legendary 4th of July Celebration

Hailed as the largest fireworks display in the Southeast, *Lenox Square’s Legendary 4th celebration promises to be even more spectacular for 2013. In its 54th year of dazzling Atlantans on the July 4th, Lenox Square’s annual patriotic party palooza features a host of entertainment and activities for the entire family. Here’s a lineup of the day’s highlights:

3pm – Parents bring your kids to Lenox Square’s Kids Zone where they can experience a fun day filled with a variety of fun activities like inflatables, bungee jumps and more.

6pm – Tin Lizzy’s VIP Area opens for guests ages 21 and up. A $10 cover gains you access and includes one complimentary beer. While inside, enjoy $4 drafts, $3 tacos and a relaxing lounge area with tables and chairs. Later in the evening, ‘Atlanta’s Next Legend’ winner Wesley Cook will be available for a meet & greet in the VIP Area.

Beginning at 6pm, join me Nikka Shae as I emcee a diverse lineup of live entertainment on the main stage including the following:

6pm – Jimmy Buffett tribute band Sons of Sailors

7pm – ‘Atlanta’s Next Legend’ winner Wesley Cook

9:40pm – The much-anticipated fireworks display blasts off in spectacular fashion! Lasting approximately 20 minutes with two mini-finales leading into the grand finale, a total of 4,963 fireworks will light the night sky in fantastic fashion! Recently Levi’s® Jeans kicked off the summer in style as they hosted a Step Into Denim fashion showcase at Macy’s in Lenox Square. In conjunction with Macy’s American Icons campaign the event celebrated Levi’s® 140^th Anniversary of the brands’ iconic 501 Denim Jeans. I had the pleasure of hosting this fabulous event as well as a fashion showcase where shoppers were treated to several Levi’s® inspired looks along with tips on how to rock their Levi’s® denim with the latest fashion trends.

During the event shoppers enjoyed beats by a live DJ, a step performance by “Break the Stage,” as well as several free gifts and a few added perks with their Levi’s® denim purchases. The fashion showcase featured several trendy looks inspired by Levi’s® denim such as how to dress up a classic white-tee, how to look Bohemian chic in your Levi’s®, and a new age look inspired by The Great Gatsby movie. Levi’s® carries some really trendy styles like floral prints and also embellished pieces that add the perfect amount of dazzle to your denim.

Currently Crushing: The Windows Phone 8X by HTC

As many of you may already know, I consider myself a social media mobile maven. My mobile phone is like my right hand man…well; since I’m a girlie girl it’s more like my right hand “girl”, or even better my “go-to girl”, or something like that…you get the picture. Ok; moving on… I’m always on the go, so needless to say having a reliable mobile phone is everything to me since being connected to all that’s haute and happening around town and on social media is my passion. But not just any mobile phone is up to the task. For starters it has to be cute (hey, I’m a girlie girl remember), it has to have a ton of cool apps, and most importantly it has to keep me organized. And I’m no stranger to the latest in mobile phones either. In fact I’ve owned just about every trendy device out there such as the iPhone, the Blackberry, and the Android. But, there was one that I had not tried and that was the Windows Phone. So as fate would have it I was recently gifted an HTC Windows Phone 8X w/ Beats audio by Microsoft to take for a test drive, and needless to say me and my new Windows Phone have been like Thelma and Louise ever since. 😛 I absolutely LOVE this phone! It’s lightweight, comes in several fabulous colors (I chose the California Blue), and is every bit of a rock star! It’s true! Every time I whip it out to snap a pic or two, onlookers are gasping for a closer look. Of course I then have to initiate my 5/5/5 rule… I let them hold it for 5 seconds, look at it for 5 seconds, and then I attempt to pry it from their 5 tightly clinched fingers. 😀

Besides its stylishly chic looks, the Windows Phone 8X features over 145,000 apps and games, the ability to sync your email accounts, calendar, and all of your essentials that keep you connected to family and friends like Twitter, Facebook, and Instance (for Instagram). This baby even has Windows Office built right in. So no more tracking down your assistant for that PowerPoint presentation, just upload it to the Windows’ SkyDrive and grab it on the fly. Get it? Sky/fly?… Ok; moving on…

The Windows Phone 8X is the only phone that features Live Tiles that let you customize your screen with your favorite apps, tools, people, and all essentials that keep you connected to the things that matter most. No scrolling through pages of endless apps, just pin the things that you use most to your start screen for easy access. You can even change the accent and background colors to suit your mood for the day. Hmmm… I’m feeling a bit festive today so I will go for the Lime. 😉

The Windows Phone 8X is also packed with lots of neat features like Voice Search, Music Search, and Visual Search which uses your camera to identify products, DVD’s, books, etc and tells you where you can purchase them nearby. Check out a full list of features HERE. One of my favorite features is Local Scout. Let’s say you’re out and about looking for the nearest restaurant, shopping mall, or happening event in the area. Simply tap the search button then hit the Local Scout icon and the Bing™ genie (not actually a real genie) will send you suggestions on eateries, shopping, and things to do near you. Neat huh?! And, to make your search even more personalized you can sync Bing™ with Facebook to show you deals on the things you enjoy most…sorta like your very own personal concierge, less the British accent of course. 😀

As you can see there are lots of really cool features, but I especially love the front/rear-facing camera. No more bad selfies because I can easily see the shot before I snap it. Yeah!!! And I’m a Twitter and Instagram junkie too, so any chance I get to snap and post pics is like giving treats to a toddler…I can’t get enough! 😛 And the camera on this phone is uh-mazing!
