Make Me Fab Mondays: Wishing for “dryer” days

Drybar. No cuts. No color. Just-blowouts. Only $35

Hey Divas,

If you’ve lived in Atlanta within the past few years, you know how unreliable the weather has been. Cold when it should be hot. Hot when it should be cold. Wet when it should be dry; etc, etc. I mean, it’s has been so unpredictable lately, that even Miss Cleo would be stumped at giving an accurate forecast. 😀 So the other day I received a last minute invite to an event, on what had to be one of the wettest days Atlanta has seen since the great flood. 😛 and I got caught in the downpour… without an umbrella to cover my head. So needless to say my hair was a complete and utter mess! And not the kind of mess that a can be remedied by a wide tooth comb and a scrunchy either. No ma’am! This was gonna take some real “hocus-pocus” to repair. It needed to be styled ASAP, and there simply was no time to do the “salon scheduling two-step” with the local salon to get an appointment four or more days out. That simply WOULD NOT do. I know you’re thinking, “There can’t be a happy ending to this fairy-tale, right?” Well, fear not my lovelies. I will tell you how I discovered a place where “magic and martinis” aren’t the only things being served on the menu. 😀

Drybar Assistant Manager Katerina Wean and stylist/magician Hiliary Munley

Drybar Assistant Manager Katerina Wean and stylist/magician Hiliary Munley

A little while back I attended the grand opening of Drybar in Buckhead where I met one of the fabulous stylists there named Hilairy Munley. I’ll get back to Ms. Hilairy (aka the Houdini of Hair, and bka the Copperfield of Coiffure) a little later. 😀 Drybar is a uber-chic salon that specializes in blowout hair styles. Yep, blowouts! No cuts. No color. Just Blowouts. Oh, and they serve drinks there too. What a fabulous concept, right!? I mean, how many times have you been to the salon and wished you were somewhere sipping on a Mimosa? Well at the Drybar you can do just that. See, you can have a glass of wine, a mimosa, some champagne, and get your hair blow dryed in a variety of styles named after cocktail drinks. That’s right… “cocktail” inspired styles that are just as dee-lish as they are fabulous!

Blow dry maven and founder of Drybar Alli Webb

Blow dry maven and founder of Drybar Alli Webb

Alli Webb, founder and “blow dry maven” of Drybar, candidly talks about her ‘Ah ha’ moment that led to launching the business: “Even though I’m a licensed hair stylist, I was never able to blow my hair out exactly how I wanted it myself. I got fed up overpaying at the salon that cut my hair, and really didn’t love going to a discount chain. The “ah ha moment” for me was when I realized that if I created a fun, beautiful atmosphere but was able to charge a discounted price, it would be the best of both worlds and women would come running. And that’s exactly what happened.”

Drybar's fabulously chic decor

Alli, who built her reputation amongst the celebrity elite, established Drybar in Los Angeles in 2010, and has since expanded the operation to multiple locations on the West Coast such as Brentwood, Newport Beach, Pacific Palisades, San Diego, San Francisco, Studio City, West Hollywood, with future locations opening in Manhattan Beach and West Lake Village. Drybar also has many locations throughout the U.S. in cities such as Scottsdale Arizona, several locations in New York, Dallas and Plano Texas, and Atlanta Georgia.

So, upon entering Drybar, located on Paces Ferry Rd in Buckhead, I was immediately over taken by how much the ambiance felt just like a cocktail lounge. Styling chairs were set as bar stools, with iPOD docking stations and foot rails around the bar/styling area, AND there were L’Oreal and Moroccan Oil hair care products displayed on the walls behind the bar like top shelf spirits. Too Fab! These were just a few of the cues that completed the bar-like feel and decorum. And just like most bars at 6pm, the place was packed! At each station there were ladies “sipping in style” with other patrons socializing in the lobby while enjoying wine, champagne as well as other light beverages. The atmosphere was very lively and inviting, and the music set the mood for an exhilarating experience. Wow! This was by far the chicest happy hour I’ve ever been to!

They even have snacks to satisfy your sweet tooth

They even have snacks to satisfy your sweet tooth

After my moment of euphoria, I checked in with Drybar managers Brandy and Katerina, who asked what I would like to drink. Hey, after my bout with the Atlanta Monsoon, I was in desperate need of a hot tea. Yep. You heard me right…a simple hot green tea. See, Drybar also caters to those with non-alcohol tastes; as well they have a two drink limit.

Ok, so, hot tea in hand, I made my way over to Hilairy “Houdini” Munley  :-D, who sat me down in her styling chair as she talked about the services that Drybar offers on their “menu”. Ok, so what’s on the menu? You want your hair straight with a little bit of body (Straight Up)? How about a smooth and sleek look (Manhattan)? Or, do you prefer lots of loose curls (Cosmopolitan), or a messy/beachy look (Mai Tai), or a combination of both (Cosmo-Tai)? Maybe you wanna go for volume (Southern Comfort) or a short and sweet look (Hot Toddy). Whatever style you choose, you can be sure to look intoxicatingly fabulous! No matter how long, or how short, how thick, or how long, whether curly or straight – it’s always one flat fee of $35. And your wash is also included! And, they also offer updo stying (Up-Tini), and you can even get your little diva all dolled-up with cute curls (Shirley Temple). Fabulous!!! View Drybar’s full service menu.

Fabulous Moroccan Oil products

After getting the skinny on their services, I made my way over to the shampoo bowl where Hilairy “Copperfield” discussed all the products that she would be using in my hair. She stated that Drybar uses all Moroccan products, from the moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and the hydrating styling cream. They can also add L’Oreal treatment to your shampoo called “Hair Shots” which are repair and rejuvenate treatments for dry, weak or color-treated hair. Also, you can include a 10-minute scalp massage during your shampoo called a “Floater”. I’ll have another round please…thanks! 😀

Now it’s time for my blow out. Hilairy ”Angel” showed me several looks that they offer from their Look Book, and explained that their preferred styling method is front-to-back blow dry styling. So, I opted for the Straight Up style with body and volume at the top…just like me! 😉  Hilairy also stated that all stylists attend additional training courses year-round so they’re well versed on various styling techniques.

"Straight Up", do you like my hair style? :-D

She mentioned Drybar’s membership options that are designed with your budget in mind. They offer cost conscious pricing for both “regulars” and “barflies” (too cute!) who want to get the most from frequent visits. You can even set up a bar tab by purchasing a bunch of blowouts at once, and they will keep track of them and take them off your tab each time you come in. How cool is that!!!? And of course, if you just want to get the girls together and go “bar hopping” (that one is mine), they also have a party planner on staff to handle all your needs.

Ok, so Hilairy was almost done working her “magic” on my hair, and because of the dreadful weather outside, she used this Moroccan flexible holding spray that smelled absolutely heavenly! Now it was time for the big reveal… Ta da!!! My hair was sooo soft and silky, and just flowing!!! Love it! I was so amazed at the results! Hilairy definitely has a career as a master stylist, and/or a magician, or in the case of my hair a little bit of both! 😛

Thanks to the fabulous Hilairy Munley (@hilairymunley) for working her magic on my hair, and Drybar Atlanta GM Lisa Linehan (@lisalinehan) for the gracious invite. I absolutely loved loved loved my hair, and the amazing staff was so nice and “bubbly”. 😀

Follow Me Fridays: Déjà shoe

Sole Society - The hottest new shoe club for the style obsessed!

Hey Divas,

If you haven’t already heard, I have a weakness for fabulous shoes. And trust me when I say, that calling it a “weakness” is putting it mildly. While others have a fondness for fashionable footwear, MY “weakness” would be like using a paper towel to hold back raging water from a dam… I might be able to “keep it at bay” for a moment, but eventually a few drops are gonna seep through. It’s pretty bad, huh?… Eh, what can I say?

Sunnys Hair & Wigs

Breck Bennett of Fashion Without Guilt and Eboni from The Fashionista Next Door

I’m always looking for an excuse to break out a pair of heels and hit the town. So, when the fabulous Eboni from The Fashionista Next Door invited me to a holiday shoe party for Atlanta’s bloggers I knew that I was definitely in for a fun night of shopping, socializing, and of course…shoes! The soiree was held at Sunny’s Hair & Wigs in the heart of Buckhead in Atlanta. Sunny’s is a very swanky hair boutique that carries all types of hair and wigs for the hairnista.

I was so thrilled and excited to attend this event simply because if this affair was anything like the Fashionable Atlanta Blogger Meetup that Eboni co-hosted last summer at Envy’s Boutique, I knew we were all in for a special treat. I mean, the swag bags at that event were so nice, AND they contained a gift card for a free pair of heels from Sole Society. Free AND Heels…two words that go great together…kinda like “free” and “ANYTHING to do with fashion” for that matter. 😛 But, in the mist of my running around town at the time, shortly thereafter I lost my gift card and wasn’t able to cash in on those free pumps. 🙁 So needless to say I’m in need of a lil retail redemption. 😛

Now, upon entering Sunny’s I was greeted by the fab Breck Bennett of Fashion Without Guilt. Breck welcomed the guests to enjoy a glass of Clos du Bois wine, delectable treats by Vosges gourmet choclates, fab swag bags filled with all types of goodies, and the pièce de résistance of the eve…a FREE pair of shoes from Sole Society!  Hello déjà vu…It’s so good to see you again!!!

If you haven’t heard of Sole Society, you don’t know what you’re missing. Sole Society is a personalized shoe club that provides designer quality, on-trend shoes personally selected just for you. Based on your individual Style Bio, they will handpick a selection of today’s most fabulous footwear every month. Once you make your first purchase, you will become an active member of Sole Society and receive monthly shoe selections, special promotions, discounts and much more.

Ok, so I’m all giddy-giddy as I dash to these haute pink pair of Bianca’s; but they were all out of my size. (All together now… Awwwww!) But alas Divas, I didn’t sulk for very long as there was still a smorgasbord of delicious heels to choose from. So, I spotted a sassy pair of bow pump Carrie heels, which had faux suede bows on the toes. KEE-UTE!!!  “Come to me my little pretties” (in my best Margaret Hamilton from the Wizard of Oz)!

Well, I must say that this was truly a “shoe-tastic” event! I had a great time chatting with all the fab ATL’s bloggers about style and fashion, and what’s in store for the upcoming season.

Thanks to the always glamorous Eboni for the invite and the gifts; and Shoe Society for the pumps. What a wonderful and exciting night filled with fun, fashion and fabulous footwear! I can’t wait to see what Eboni has up her “vintage blazer” next. 😀

I’ll see you at the next event ladies! No wait, I did already; right?

This déjà vu thing is so confusing…

Work It Wednesdays: K.I.S.S. your Winter blues goodbye!

K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Sexy

Hey Divas,

Winter is almost over and Spring is quickly headed our way. Now I don’t know about you, but I think it’s time to start planning a getaway. And I’m not talking about the kind of getaway that’s “a few rental car hours” away kinda getaway…Oh No No No! I’m dreaming big on this one ladies. I’m thinking beach front with seascape views of lush mountains, open air with the ocean breeze greeting you in the morning while the sunset serenades you in the evening; someplace far far away from everywhere caliber “getting-away”.  Just imagine a romantic candlelit dinner underneath the starlit sky while the crackling waves of the ocean serenade your evening meal. But, what will you wear to this amazing dinner date? Hmmm… Something “resort worthy” yet has a Bohemian-chic feel to it. Something that’s “fantasy fabulous” but it can still keep the fire lit well into the night. Something that’s simple, yet sexy. Hmmm… Well, whenever I’m faced with a fashion dilemma, I just K.I.S.S. it! Keep It Simple & Sexy!

So, for this exotic rendezvous I was thinking of this (1.) Cold Shoulder Knit Top ($19.50) courtesy of Ashley Stuart. This sassy piece features three-quarter sleeves with open shoulder cutouts that are perfect to let the ocean breeze kiss your skin. Pair it with these fabulous (2.) Tribal Knit Palazzo Pants ($36.50) by Ashley Stewart. These sexy and fun pants feature wide-cut legs that will sashay with your every move. The Cold Shoulder Knit Top also has a scooping neckline that’s perfect for this fabulous (3.) Intricate Details Pendant Necklace ($14.97) from Charming Charlie. You will definitely make a statement with this multi-pendant accessory with its chain drape detail and vibrant beaded accents that scream Bohemian-chic. Add an eclectic touch with an elaborate (4.) Coral Burst Stretch Bracelet ($14.97) and matching (5.) Coral Burst Hoop Earrings ($7.97) from Charming Charlie. These chunky accessories feature scattered clusters of multi-tonal beads and crystals; as well as wooden pieces that help to fuse the look together. Add a delightfully dreamy edge to your look with these pretty (6.) Chantal pumps by Bebe ($110.00) at Zappos. These haute beauties with their lacy fabric upper and 5 inch stacked platform heel are a perfect complement to your Bohemian-chic look.

Hmmm…

How about somewhere just off the coast of Malaysia surrounded by the stunning turquoise sea.

Make Me Fab Mondays: Frizzy Hair v. Coco Curls

Coco-Curls

All rise in the case of Frizzy Hair v. Coco Curls.
All of the participants have been sworn in. Let the case begin.

The Argument…

Ladies, we all have many horror stories to share about our quests to attain fabulous hair, right? Over the years, I’ve purchased a countless amount of hair care products costing nothing short of a small fortune. In fact I’ve spent so much money on the stuff that I could have easily purchased a small island in the Bahamas by now. I mean, you should see all the hair care products I have in my bathroom. I may as well open a beauty supply store and call it Nikka’s Stuff; which by the way is open Monday thru Friday from 10a-6p and most weekends. 😀 Seriously, I’ve become very desperate in my seemingly endless search to find a great product that simply works, and one that’s not going to take money out of my Bahamas Isle coffer. 😀 You see, I have a daughter whose hair I begrudgingly style each and every morning. It’s such a daunting task in itself, but then there’s the frustration of doing it over and over again with the many different products that simply do not hold up and/or simply do not work. Her hair, which is naturally curly and nearly waist length, frizzes up like a lion’s mane by the end of the day, no matter how much work I put into styling it in the morning. Arrrrgh!!!

But before I tell you about how I discovered a way to tame the beast that is my daughter’s hair, let’s rewind this story a bit.

While attending the Naturals Girls Rock event, I met Jeannell Darden who is the CEO of Coco Curls, an all natural hair cream for natural hair styles. Jeannell explained that Coco Curls is designed to help retain the moisture in your hair while giving your hair that spirally and springy look. I expressed to her the difficulties I’d been having with my daughter’s hair, so she gave me a jar of her Coco Curls cream to try.

My daughters hair just after being washed

My daughters hair just after being washed

The Trial…

Sunday is the designated hair washing day at my home, so I thought that this would be the perfect time to try Coco Curls. I washed, conditioned and combed my daughter’s hair as I always do. However, while her hair was still wet I applied the Coco Curls hair cream just as the instructions called for. Here’s a step-by-step video of me applying Coco Curls to my daughter’s hair:

The Deliberation…

So, shortly afterwards she headed off to bed with the Coco Curls cream still in her hair. The next morning it was time to take down the twists from her hair. As I began to unravel her hair I was sooo amazed at the results! Not only were her curls defined, but they were very very soft.

Hmmm… So what IS this stuff made of? Well, Coco Curls contains all natural ingredients such as Aloe Vera Juice, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil, Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate, Hydroxypropyl trimonium Honey, Lactobacillus Ferment, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (and) Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Dehydroxanthan Gum, Fragrance Oils.

Ok Coco Curls. Now you have my attention. But the true test will be when my daughter arrives from school, because typically her hair is a complete mess by afternoon. But, to my surprise the curls were still intact, her hair still had a beautiful shine, and there was no “frizzy” thing happenin.

My daughters hair after using Coco Curls cream

My daughters hair after using Coco Curls cream

TheVerdict…

The very next morning I repeated the process by applying a quarter size amount to her hair in the morning, brushing the fly-aways, and then done! (For the sake of not revealing my sheer glee before the final verdict, I will try to keep my joy under wraps for a little while longer…but let me tell you that it’s tough! 😀 ) The mere notion of no more losing the morning hair battles and no more afternoon blowouts is enough for me to break out in sheer pandemonium. I mean, before I was using 3+ products each day to help manage her hair, and now I’d only need one product!? (queue the epiphany) This would not only save me time AND money, but I wouldn’t have to use so many unhealthy and harsh chemicals in her hair.

So, what’s the final verdict?

Did Coco Curls make my daughter’s hair look fab?

GUILTY AS CHARGED!!!

Coco Curls; you are hereby sentenced to our hair indefinitely, with sentencing to begin immediately! 😉

Recently I was invited to an intimate natural hair discussion dubbed Coco Curls & Conversation, which was hosted by Jeannell of Coco Curls along with celebrity/natural hair stylist April B. Held at the chic Celebrity Hair Salon in Castleberry Hills, the event featured very poignant discussion on a variety of topics related to Jeannell’s own personal experiences while transitioning to natural hair. She explained that her motivation for creating Coco Curls grew out of frustration from the lack of products that were available for natural hair back when she decided to make her transition in the mid 90’s. Jeannell also touched on various ways to help maintain natural hair, and the importance of using products that work FOR and not against your hair. During the event Jeannell also “covered” protective styling techniques, the types of essential oils that are great for natural hair, as well as how to care for and treat your hair. Jeannell also let us in on several new and upcoming products such as a line of shampoo, conditioner, and a refresher spray slated for release this year. Yeah!!! I can’t wait to get my hair, er hands on these new products. 😀

The workshop was absolutely FREE to all, and in return guests were asked to bring an item to be donated to local women’s and children’s shelters. Wonderful!!!

Guests of the event were not only treated to informative and useful advice, but they witnessed a live demonstration of how to perform a two strand twist by stylist April B.

Delicious cupcakes, beautiful jewelry and fab giveaways were just a few of the goodies on hand for guests, as well as a fun hair trivia game that rivaled the likes of The Family Feud! 😀

Jeannell of Coco Curls and Nikka Shae

The event was filled with fabulous women who rocked all types of fabulous natural hair styles, and I had a great time listening to the many stories and personal journeys that were shared about transitioning into natural hair. Because of my own experiences with mine and my daughter’s hair, I could easily relate to the struggles, the frustrations, and the difficulties of finding products within the natural hair care market that actually work. Well, I can personally attest to the fact that Coco Curls does just that…it REALLY WORKS! Oh, and it smells heavenly too! 😉

Thank you Jeannell for introducing me to your wonderful product in Coco Curls; my daughter absolutely LOVES it! I look forward to seeing you at Fro Fashion Week next month. Ladies, give Coco Curls a try….you can thank me later! 😉

Court is now adjourned.

Beauty & the Bride

♫Going to the Chapel…And we’re gonna get married!♫

That’s what came to mind while I was en route to the “Beauty & The Bride” event at Polished Beauty Lounge in Vinings. Now, I’m not a member of the famed girl trio, The Dixie Cups, so maybe that tune was slightly out of context in my case, as only a few weeks earlier I had already exchanged my vows in matrimony. (Insert patter clap) So, if you will, my present status is best related to that of one Shug Avery in The Color Purple, where she holds up her ring finger and proclaims, I’s Married Now! 😉

Now that that’s clear, let’s move on…

“Beauty & The Bride; hosted by author and wedding expert Tia R. Ervin; was the prime opportunity for brides as well as wedding professionals to “engage” in real talk about weddings while picking up simple tips and solutions on how to pull a wedding off without a hitch. This “bridalpalooza” was also a chance for brides pick up a few coveted beauty secrets that will help keep their glow as bright as the ‘bling in the ring.’ And, with countless weddings under her belt, Tia R. Ervin aka “The WEDucator” and owner of Milestone Occasions, knows the make or break tips for making every woman shine on the most important day of her life. Guests of the event were equipped with invaluable knowledge and advice from choosing a good wedding planner to “life after the wedding”. Yes ladies (and gents)…there is such a thing. 😀

I was so excited about attending this event. Just the thought of meeting the brides-to-be and the glow of excitement surrounding their wedding day takes me back to my own pre-wedding planning and the moments leading up to my big day, and also how I was one misplaced orchid away from becoming a certified Bridezilla. 😀 Anyone who’s tried to plan their “own” wedding knows all too well the fine line between having a successful event and being committed to ward #3 of the mental asylum. Can I get an amen ladies?… (insert cricket chirps) O.k. Moving on…

During the event I had the pleasure of meeting several amazing women such as Mary Chatman of Black Bride, TMarie of Carisma Designs, and Alicia Edwards of Alicia Style. I had a wonderful time mixing and mingling with all the ladies, as well as picking up a few nuggets of wisdom from Tia R. Ervin. I only wish I’d had the pleasure of meeting Tia prior to my wedding one month prior. With Tia’s guidance I’m sure I would have eliminated a great deal of the stressful moments leading up to my own “big day”.

Well, I must be going…Visiting hours at the ward are up, and they are about to show The Color Purple in the TV room. 😀  Ciao!

Work It Wednesdays: Going Dutch…and loving it!

Yoek is fabelachtig!

Hallo Divas!

While chit-chatting on Facebook, I stumbled on a contest being sponsored by a company based in the Netherlands called Yoek. They were giving away a fabulous Panther Bag to the 100th person to like their Facebook page.  I thought to myself; hmmm… Stuk van cake! For all my Divas with whom Dutch is truly a foreign language; that gem of a phrase means “Piece of cake!” For all my Prima Divas with whom Dutch is their primary language, my apologies in advance if there are any errors in my interpretation. 🙂 I’m still tweaking my Dutch c/o Rosetta Stone. 🙂

Well, of course, I liked Yoek’s Facebook page… and not just because of the chance at winning a fabulous gift, but, after I visited their website I was immediately hooked! I mean, Yoek specializes in full figured fashions that are absolutely prachti! 😉 I especially love their colorful and sassy Frida print collection. (insert dramatic fainting motion) OMG!

So, a few days later I received an email from Yoek congratulating me on being the 100th person to like their Facebook page, which meant that I had won the Panther Bag! YEAH!!! I immediately sent my info to Yoek to collect my prize, and shortly thereafter my package arrived (queue uncontrollable glee). When I opened the package, inside was a beautiful box adorned with a black satin bow. So so gorgeous!!!

Elegantly wrapped in haute pink tissue was my beloved prize… Now, I could never be sure, but I faintly recall hearing what sounded like cherubs singing as I peeled back the tissue to reveal my new gift. 😀

Am I hearing things?

Am I hearing things?

Now when I say this bag was huge, that’s putting it mildly. Let’s just say you could fit a small Peugeot in there, with room to spare. 😛 I felt like “queen of the jungle” with my new panther print bag! And you know that no diva can be within the immediate vicinity of  a shopping bag and not be tempted to use it; so you know what that meant…time to go “hunting” for goodies to fill it with! (*snarl)

This Panther Bag is HUGE!

Hmmm... I wonder what I can fill this with?

But, before I set out to pillage the mall 😀 I had to thank Yoek for the wonderful gift. I immediately contacted them via email to express my gratitude for the lovely bag, and during our correspondence I asked if I could review one of their products. They said sure, and for me to pick an item of my choosing for the review. Of course I had my eye on their fabulous Frida dress a while back, so the choice was easy.

So, once again, I’m anxiously waiting for another lovely Yoek box to arrive with the dress. Once I received the dress I must say that it looked absolutely amazing!  The dress is inspired by renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Its colorful prints are reminiscent of her strikingly beautiful paintings, while the rose print makes you think of her signature flower decorated hair.

I couldn’t wait to show off the Frida dress at an upcoming event, and by happenstance, I was invited to several events that were taking place a few days later. This was the perfect opportunity for me to showcase this gorgeous dress, and I had just the right accessories in mind to compliment it. I decided to pair it with a bold red belt and a colorful bauble necklace I scored from Charming Charlie. And, I completed the look with my haute red “show stoppers” that I won during an intense bidding war (at the Heeling Diabetes Shoenista Auction last summer), which easily rivaled the likes of a Dave Hester and Darrell Sheets showdown on Storage Wars. 😀

Up first for the evening was Maudlin et al’s grand opening mixer at their fabulous showroom in Atlanta’s West Midtown Design District. The Frida dress, with its colorful palette, looked amazing against the eclectic décor of the showroom. You can see me and the Frida dress sashaying around the Maudlin et al showroom here.

Next up was the Naturally Pretty event hosted by Maeling Tapp (Natural Chica) and the fab Mimi J (P3 Lab) at Defoor’s Center in Midtown. I had a wonderful time at both events that night, but the Frida dress stole the show as I received so many compliments on it throughout the night. 😀

I love that Yoek offers very stylish fashion forward pieces for plus size divas like me! And, the Frida dress was not only eye catching, but the fit was perfect! Bravo!!!

Yoek brands their collection as both versatile and trendy and they’ve accomplished just that by creating pieces that compliment and accentuate the full figured woman with class and style.

Along with co-owner Chantal Smits, former model and founder of Yoek, Johanna Timmer, encourages women to “Feel good inside your own skin, and feel good in what you wear”.

Truly Inspiring words that apply to ALL women. Fabelachtig Yoek. Fabelachtig!!!

Make Me Fab Mondays: The New Color of Fashion

Zoya Professional Nail Polish

Pssst…Hey Dēvas…
I couldn’t wait to share a little secret with you. (looking over shoulders…) I think I have just discovered a diamond called Zoya nail polish… Shhhh … I will tell you how I stumbled on this gem of a find…

As many of you know, I’m always scouting around looking to uncover new and exciting things to write about. So, while tweeting around Twitterland, I stumbled on @Zoya_NailPolish, and in true fashion I had to indulge my curiosity and go for a closer look. At the time, Zoya was running a special promo to receive a few samples from their collection. Of course I wanted to see what this company was all about, so I put my sample request in and a week later my package arrived. Yeah! And just like a kid at Christmas I couldn’t wait to open my new gift. 😀

Zoya nail polish colors Yara and Anja

Zoya nail polish colors Yara and Anja

In the package were two colors from Zoya’s Fall Collection called Anja and Yara. Anja is described as “a rich, deep, vampy red-toned wine purple with a glossy crème finish”, while Yara is defined as “a medium smoky olive drab with an illuminating splash of bright gold glitter”.

I could no longer contain my joy so I decided to try the Anja color, and immediately applied a quick test coat to my nails. And to my sheer amazement, within a few minutes my nails were completely dry! But, that’s not all… the color was very vibrant…and the shine…let’s just say I was at a loss for words, which is a rare occurrence according to several people who wish to remain anonymous. 😉

I could not believe what I had just witnessed. (Queue jaw drop and cherub serenade) O:-) My initial reaction was to throw myself backwards in a dramatic fainting motion, but instead I proclaimed my glee by shouting “WHAT!!!” Yea, yeah, I know that’s not your “typical” comeback response, but work with me here. 🙂 So, as a result of my “unorthodox” reaction, my daughter hears me, and her curiosity brings her in for a closer look. She looks at my nails, and then back at me, and in typical “kid-truthiness” fashion, she announces “Mommy, your nails are still wet!” A sudden look of bewilderment came over me as I just realized that the words “wet” and “nails” had rarely been used together in my many countless manicures before. 😐 I was simply amazed at the mere notion of what had just happened; especially since I had not applied any primer or base coat beforehand nor did I apply a top coat afterwards.

The following day, I, with my Zoya Anja in tow, headed over to the Polished Beauty Lounge in Smyrna for a fresh mani and pedi…and a mimosa (which they offer to patrons on Sundays). 😛 And as always, the wonderful ladies at Polished did a fabulous job…and, guess what? They use Zoya nail polish in their salon as well! (insert patter clap) YEAH!!!

Zoya Professional Lacquer

I love my new Zoya nails!

Now Dēvas, we ALL love it when our nails have that wet, glossy look just after they are done. And if the color AND shine lasts for more than a few days we are “reluctantly” satisfied with the outcome. But the reality is that shine and color usually start to fritter away much sooner than we’d like, and that’s something that we’ve all grown a little too accustomed to.

Now, I must admit that I’m a bit heavy handed at times. So much so that M&M’s don’t melt in my hands, but, they’re transformed into a Twix bar. 😐 In all seriousness, my hands go through quite a bit and my nail polish needs to be up to the task. You see, as a “Blog Fab Fashionista” I’m constantly typing and tweeting, so you can imagine how much stress I put on my nails on a regular basis. And, since I’m always out-and-about town, I have to look my utmost best and my nails are a huge part of the presentation. As a result of my hectic lifestyle I easily (and often) chip my nails, and because of this I generally have to “tweak” my nails every 2-3 days to get them back to a presentable state. 🙁 Not fun.

Needless to say, after a week of wearing Zoya nail polish, my nails not only look superb, but the color is still rich, the shine is vibrant and I am (drum roll…) CHIP FREE! Yeah!!!

Zoya’s nail polish is branded as “healthy” and I can see why. Their polish is vegan friendly, formaldehyde, toluene, camphor & dibutyl phthalate (DBP) free and they don’t contain any of those nasty parabens. GLAMTASTIC!

Where have you been all my life!?

I had no idea that Zoya’s been around since the mid 80’s… I consider myself a TRUE 80’s buff, so I’m scratching my head on how this gem slipped under my 80’s radar? 😉 I also read that Zoya has been the choice for some of the top salons and celebrity stylists, and they’ve also received many awards for their long wearing formula. And, with over 300 dazzling colors in their collection I will have plenty of color options to choose from. Hmmm… I have my “fingers” set on a few beauties from their upcoming True Spring 2012 Nail Polish Collection that would go great with several haute looks I spotted in Torrid!

Well, Zoya has changed my perception about nail polish, and for this reason I’m sold! Zoya will definitely be a permanent addition to my nail polish arsenal.

So the next time you’re in need of a mani or pedi, give Zoya nail polish a try…you will be glad you did! Nikka Shae The Undercover Socialite

Hey Dēvas! Have you tried Zoya before? What are your fav colors?

Follow Me Fridays: TAG… You’re it!

TAGS Boutique

Recently I was invited to a Pamper Party hosted by Kandi Burruss at her TAGS Boutique located in Smyrna Georgia, for a day of fun, fashion, and plenty of “surprises”. I was running a lil fashionably late to the event and didn’t want to be “Tardy for the Party”. 😛 But, I made it on time and I’m glad I did as it was definitely one to remember!

Yall know Ms. Kandi, right? Well, not only is she responsible for several Grammy worthy hits such as TLC’s “No Scrubs” (which earned her two Grammy’s) and Destiny’s Child’s mega hits “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Bug a Boo”, but she has also penned hits for Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Boyz II Men, Da Brat, NSYNC, Pink, Usher, Fantasia, Mýa, Joe, and MC Lyte to name a few. AND, if that STILL doesn’t ring a bell, Ms. Kandi is the star of the hit Bravo TV show The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Oh, let’s not forget that Kandi is also a member of one of my all-time fav groups Xscape! True story; Xscape’s “Traces of My Lipstick”  is currently on standby in my car’s CD changer as we speak. 😀

TAGS Boutique caters to both men and women offering chic apparel in trendy styles that are quite affordable which should easily work within any fashionista’s budget. I love, love, love their shoe and accessories collections of which were strategically placed throughout the boutique like showpieces. I had my eye on a fab pair of rust colored suede and denim wedges. OMG!

Guests of the event were treated to massages, manicures, makeup appliqués and makeovers courtesy of the fab ladies at Paul Mitchell’s the School ESANI, along with light bites, cupcakes, cake pops, and cocktails…OH MY!!!

The fab Toya Wright of BET’s Toya: A Family Affair was also there to support the event.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Toya at a Sister 2 Sister Magazine party dubbed Ladies Night Out a few months back, and just like I remember she was super sweet!

But, the “buzz” surrounding the event was not centered on the boutique… There was another “vibe” in the air as Ms. Kandi revealed the real star of the show… her new line of sensual products. Yep…you heard me correctly! Ms. Kandi unveiled her “Bedroom Kandi” line of personal pleasure products!

Ok… Enough with the suspense.

Here’s a brief description of her groundbreaking (and/or in this case “ground shaking”) products: 😉

Contemporary in both design and function, this dual stimulation rechargeable massager vibrates, not only, to its preset patterns, but also wirelessly to the beat and rhythm of your favorite music! Sophisticated technology meets personal pleasure. It’s really poetry in motion.

So, let me understand you correctly… it vibrates, wirelessly, to your fav iTunes playlist?

Hmmm…I’m sure Apple will see a sudden spike in subscriptions as a result…I’m jus sayin. 😮

I had a wonderful time with all the ladies, and I also met a few new blogger divas such as the fab Letetia of I’m Just Moody and the glamorous Chrys of Married 2 Makeup. The event was “Off the Hook” and we had a great time “Just Kickin It” while discussing “risque” topics (Shhh…) and picking up a few tips on how to make our significant others “happy-er”. 😀

I guess Ms. Kandi can add another title to her growing list of accomplishments…

Let’s see… Singer (check), songwriter (check), superstar (check), and now sexpert (checkmate!!!).

Well Divas, I don’t wanna give you “The Runaround” (I promise that’s the last Xscape reference)…

But it’s sooo “Hard to Say Goodbye”! 😀

Ok, NOW I’m done… Ciao!
