Work It Wednesdays: To Infinity and Beyond!

If you’re a woman on the go (like muah), then you know how difficult it is to find that perfect dress when you need it. Now I must admit that I have quite a few options to choose from when it comes to clothes. In fact, my closet could easily double as a Tanger Outlet Mall, but that’s another topic all together. 😀 So you’d think that with so many options it would be easy to just grab a dress and go. Well…here’s my dilemma.

By day I’m a business woman, but by night I often transform into Nikka Shae, the “Undercover Socialite”…a diva who’s all about discovering what’s new and happening around town.

Now I’m no Superwoman, and coming to the rescue is generally reserved for small feats of heroics involving my family and/or helping with the kids’ homework. 😉 And, as we know, every hero has a signature look, and I’m often at a crossroads when it’s time for me to dawn my cape when choosing the right outfit for an event.

See, I often get invited to attend several events in one day and I don’t always have the time to change in between them. So, what’s a hero (girl) to do?

There’s no place like home

Maudlin et al infuses classic style with old world charm

Recently the fab Tameka Morrison of T. Morrison Agency invited muah to attend the launch of Maudlin et al; an Atlanta based interior design showroom by original “Doublemint Twin” Jennifer Van Galder of California-based Maudlin La Jolla, and William “Bryan” Rose of Artifactual Concepts, an international antique furniture store that specializes in industrial furniture, old world iron, architectural salvage, soft goods and more.

Located in La Jolla, California and established in 1992 by Jennifer Van Galder, Maudlin has been providing the highest quality in interiors with timeless designs and creative décor. Maudlin offers an extensive collection of antiques and collectibles in addition to custom furniture, slipcovers, window treatments, bedding, pillows, and lighting.

Maudlin et al, located in Atlanta’s West Midtown Design District on DeFoors Avenue, is an infusion of Jennifer Van Galder’s classic style of design from her California-based Maudlin studio along with vintage and cosmopolitan cues from William “Bryan” Rose’s Artifactual Concepts’ brand.

Now anyone that knows me knows that I have an uncanny eye for the unconventional. I can easily attribute my eclectic taste to my grandmother Florence who had an adoration for unusual antiques of which would be on display throughout her home as if they were in the Château de Versailles or the halls of the Uffizi in Italy. She would collect all types of unique furniture from a Bastide French Country Louis XV lounge to this massive 3-tiered brass curio with very ornate and curvy pillars that seemed to crawl up the wall like vines. Each piece complimenting its neighbor in eclectic harmony… a symphony décor.

Modern meets old world charm

So, upon entering the Maudlin et al Atlanta studio I was immediately overtaken by a sudden feeling of déjà vu as their menagerie of unique pieces garnered familiar childhood memories of grandma Florence’s living room. Less the aroma of homemade peach cobbler, Maudlin et al felt just like home. 😀 With their mix of unique furnishings, exclusive pieces, and matchless accessories, Maudlin et al could easily rival any abstract art gallery.

Some of Maudlin’s esteemed shoppers include A-list designers such as Peter Dunham of Hollywood at Home; exclusive designer and store owner of Coup D’état in San Francisco; Blackman Cruz in Los Angeles, an Elle Décor preferred store and celebrity favorite, Rooms & Gardens out of Santa Barbara. Hollywood celebrities like Heidi Klum also find Maudlin the ‘go-to’ place for home décor. If it sounds like a list of bragging rights, it’s not, Van Galder explains, “We just want Atlanta to know just how much of a gem this place is.” All have sought her out for Maudlin’s classic European inspired designs and down to earth services.

During the event I had the pleasure of meeting several fab ladies from various media outlets including Jai Marie (Southern Fashionality), Courtney Luv (I Am Courtney Luv), Rhoda (Southern Hospitality), Bervette Carree (CNN), Candra Jolly (Kraze Magazine), and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle Magazine.

Guests were treated to wine, light bites, hors devours, and fresh fruit sculptured by Food Lovers Catering. D-lish!

A toast to 2011

Hey all my Divas and Dons!

I feel so incredibly honored and blessed to have met so many fabulous people throughout 2011; a year filled with new friendships and wonderful memories.

When I embarked on this journey last summer, my goal was to simply step out of my world a bit to see what was actually going on in this amazing world around me. So as I awoke this morning I saw something very interesting on TV that put things in perspective for me. The program was centered on how our minds tend to focus on what is within our immediate vision, and that we easily miss all the things that are going on around us because of this tunnel vision effect… In essence, our perspective is limited by our own vision.

Can you imagine all the things we’ve missed because we didn’t take just a second to stop, to turn around, and see what was going on around us?

What if you looked over your shoulder for a brief moment and noticed something that inspired you so much so that it caused you to reevaluate your life’s direction?

What if tomorrow you took a different route to your destination and realized that on this new route the road seemed to be a bit smoother; the traffic was slightly better and you shaved a few extra minutes off your travel time? Would you go the same route the following day?

So as I toast to all the memories of 2011, I encourage you to not let your dreams be limited to what’s directly in front of you. Take a moment to stop and look around. You just might be inspired! 😉

My goal for 2012 is to continue to enjoy the ride on this new journey. I hope you will join me!
