Imagine relaxing porch-side on a lazy South Carolina afternoon. The aroma of home cooked fixins fills the air as you sip mint julep from the balcony… wishing the day would never end.
If delicious down-home dishes wrapped in southern hospitality are what you crave, then I know just the place. At Poogan’s Porch in beautiful Charleston, not only do you get a taste of the Lowcountry, but you also get a hearty helping of southern charm.
A mainstay since opening its doors in 1976, Poogan’s Porch is one of Charleston’s most sought after spots for authentic southern cuisine. Located along Charleston’s landmark shopping district, Poogan’s Porch offers an authentic dining experience in a mix of Lowcountry classics and southern fusion fare that are as exciting as they are delicious!
Affectionately named in honor of its then resident pooch Poogan, Poogan’s Porch politely greets you and invites your senses to stay for a spell. Its quaint and homey feel reminded me of Sunday dinner at Grandma’s house. You almost expect an aproned Nanna to greet you at the gate welcoming you with a, “Come on in!” And if the aroma of home cooking didn’t already have your undivided attention, the ambiance certainly will. It’s no wonder that passersby can’t resist the urge to peek past the iron for a closer look.
When you walk into this beautifully restored Victorian-style house, you’re eyes are curiously drawn to a staircase that guides you into the restaurants upper dining room. A fireplace sets the mood in the grand dining room that leads out onto a balcony area.
It wasn’t hard to resist the desire to enjoy the view so Hubby and I opted for a table outside. I decided on the Lump Crab & Shrimp Pasta while hubby chose the southern classic Shrimp & Grits. They were sooo dee-lish!!!
And their fresh handmade biscuits must have been created by angels because they were oh-so heavenly. #SelfieHugs were definitely in order. 😀
Hey, when you’re in Charleston you must drop by Nanna’s Poogan’s for a spell. I guarantee you’ll expect a huge Nanna-worthy hug after every bite. But call ahead if you want a table because they fill up very quickly. Apparently good news does travel fast. 😉
Poogan’s Porch is located at 72 Queen Street in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.
